Belize’s Belcampo; Love, cherish and unwind

Belcampo (changed recently her name into the Copal Tree Lodge) is a luxury hideaway for ultimate rest and adventure. This beautiful place with its organic farm is a must-see on your top to-do list of Belize. It is probably the most beautiful place of the country. Inspired by the beauty and biodiversity of Belize, this formal Plantage takes guest on a journey to slow down and truly discover the beauty of the environment. It’s a member of the National Geographic Unique Lodges collection, but not many people know about it. This is a place where you would certainly like to stay longer.

“Luxury and a real jungle experience go hand in hand”

A driver is waiting for us to take us into the jungle area of Toledo near the Rio Grande at the Airport in Punta Gorda located in the south of Belize. Belcampo is nestled deep into the Central American Rainforest where the overwhelming beautiful jungle meets the mangrove coastline. One of the best spots for catching flying-fish in the world.

When we enter the big property of Copal Tree Lodge we pass their farm, chocolate house, cheese house and wide fields with fruits and vegetables. Everything they serve here is organic. Made at the camp itself or caught from the river.

“Remarkable organic seasonal food from their own ground, local fish and products, their own farm and chocolate house, the Belcampo has it all”

There are a lot of things to do here. For example, go fishing with the chef and prepare what you caught in the river or do excursions inland.

“The passionate and knowledgeable guides will share their stories with you and together, create a few of your own”

King Jungle Suite
My luxury King Jungle suite number 1 looks great. High ceilings, a veranda covered with mosquito net-windows, one king-sized bed, but the best of all: The shower with a great window overlooking the jungle.

“In the shower, I feel like Jane from Tarzan, but only Tarzan is missing 🙂

The teak floor with black boat-paint contrasts the grey stones of the shower-floor well. This bathroom is love at first sight for me! The eco shampoo and conditioner of EO smells very good and the hot rainfall shower gives my body a nice relaxed feeling…

The pool area is lovely; beds surrounded by bush look all heavenly to me. Unfortunately, I have no time to lie down.

Signature Canopy Suites
Later on, we visit some other suites, the master suites, which are quite spectacular as well. Both villas are across from the private infinity pool and overlook the Rio Grande, what a marvellous view! Shades of green and grey cover the horizon from the jungle Maya Mountains to the Caribbean Sea.

“You will experience the magic of the jungle within the comfort of your room”

The Restaurant
And then finally we go to dinner. With all the seasonal things we cannot wait to order. Influenced by the culturally rich Belizean heritage. The meals are a blend of Mayan, East Indian, Latin and Indo-Caribbean inspired and are prepared by using traditional and modern cooking techniques.

We eat the ‘fish of the day’, chef’s speciality, always depending on what they catch. Today it’s the Grande Snooper, fresh from the river. The food is sublime, everything is seasonal, grown here at the Plantage and everything is purely organic. Combine this with a Top Chef and you get an outstanding dinner.Virgin Cocktail <3
And on top of my dinner, I order a Virgin Cocktail. I want the barman to surprise me with one of his creations; my only wishes are, no alcohol and no sugar added. When he brings me the cocktail, he smiles and says: “I like you to taste it”. And mmmmmmm, what a wonderful taste:

Basil, cucumber, lime, pineapple, syrup, soda water and ice are the ingredients and I cannot wait to order another one and get another wonderful surprise!
