On the very top of Sweden’s picturesque Mount Förberget, more than 730 meters above sea level, rests the idyllic getaway of Copperhill Mountain Lodge. With the warmth of a typical Swedish Chalet combined with the thrilling custom design of master architect Peter Bohlin, the Copperhill Mountain Lodge (hotel) is a gem in Sweden’s snowy mountains.
“A new standard for sustainability, art and architecture in the Nordic hotel business”
Two Dutch men, Peter Kat and Frans Scholtes, founders of this extraordinary hotel decided to buy a plot of land in Sweden after a career of 25 years in fashion. They hired the talented Peter Bohlin to bring their ideas to life. When Peter arrived on the spot, he stood on the hill and started drawing immediately. He let the nature come to him and created a design where outside became a part of inside. From every room there’s an outstanding view over the snow covered hills.
Peter Bohlin has Swedish ancestry and is today regarded as one of the best in his profession. His architecture firm of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson received more than 290 awards. The villa owned by Microsoft’s founder Bill Gates is one of their most notable projects in the last few years and Copperhill is Bohlin’s first project in Scandinavia.
“For me, the intuitive is as important as the intellectual”
…says Peter Bohlin. “However different the jobs may be, the challenge is always the same. To succeed in sensing what is unique and suitable for each specific place, and understanding how people want to live or work there.”
Outside, architect Peter Bohlin simply lets nature serve as a fitting frame for his creation. It’s almost like your walking in nature itself. The large windows and perfect informal and comfortable light-filled gathering places take you to a peaceful state of mind. If you are a fan of design or you just don’t like to go hiking in a simple cabin, this is the place to be!
“A creative mind will leave this place inspired”
Frans and Peter show us around their hotel.
The names and categories of the rooms are referring to the natural ingredients of the earth underneath, like: Bronze, Magnesium, Silver, Zinc, Bass, Gold and of course Copper! There used to be a lot of Copper mines in this neighbourhood.
Never have I seen a Hotel as focused on its design with a Swedish “touch” and combined it with its breath-taking surrounding quite as well as Copperhill.
After our tour we get the change to jump into a helicopter and fly over the hotel and the amazingly beautiful mountains, covered with snow and trees. The view of hundreds of kilometres unspoiled nature is spectacular!
You can ski directly from your hotel to the slopes. And if you don’t like to ski, enjoy your bath, with a view on the mountains or go to their lovely Spa and enjoy the view and the peace you will find here.
